A Brief History of Charming Village House and its Surroundings

Some houses are simply built. Others are founded. And a few, a very few, end up falling in love with those who live in them.
It was 1825, and the plain of Riumors still smelled of sleeping water. The old "estanys", the lagoons that had covered this land for centuries, were beginning to surrender to the plough. Only those with vision could glimpse, beneath that mud, the fertile, golden Empordà that was yet to come. One of the most powerful families in the region had that vision, and chose this corner to build a house to the measure of its ambition.
They did not want it just to live in. They wanted it to reign over their lands and their herds.
Downstairs, business pulsed. Where today you sink into the sofa with a glass of Empordà wine in your hand, the family's carriages once rolled in: wheels crunching on stone, impatient horses snorting, coachmen arriving from Figueres laden with news of the world.

And where today you cook dinner for your loved ones, amid laughter and aromas, the meat of the livestock that made the family great was prepared.

Upstairs, far from the bustle, life went on. Births were celebrated there and deals were sealed with a handshake. There, as evening fell, someone would lean out of the window to watch the golden light of the Empordà spill over fields that, little by little, were changing hands. A few steps away, the bells of Sant Mamet, a church already documented in the year 1019, marked the pulse of the village, as they had done for eight centuries.

But houses with a soul do not let themselves be owned for long. They choose.
In the early 20th century, the house chose new owners: a well-to-do family from Figueres. No one wrote down what drew them to it. Perhaps it was the silence of its walls, perhaps the light. Decades later it won over people used to choosing only the exceptional: a family linked to one of the world's great multinationals.
Fifteen years ago, the house lived its most delicate chapter. Under the eye of a Count of Ventalló, renowned for his good taste in bringing the soul back to Catalan farmhouses, a prestigious interior designer with international awards restored it with care, good taste and distinction, without erasing a single one of its traces. Every corner was designed for the comfort of its new owners and for a purpose as simple as it is precious: to escape the noise of the world and enjoy a pause of calm and rest.
Today, the walls that watched the carriages go by live side by side with the serenity you are looking for on holiday.
Two centuries. Four families. A restoration signed by expert hands.

And now, the key is yours.
You haven't rented a house in the Empordà: you have stepped into its story. And who knows, many years from now, someone may tell how you too became part of it.
