Salvador Dalí route in 2 days

Salvador Dalí was born in Figueres and spent much of his life in the Empordà. Our villa sits in the middle of the so-called Dalí Triangle: Figueres 15 minutes away, Púbol 30 and Portlligat 40. Here is how to discover it in two days.

Day 1: Figueres, Dalí's city (15 min)

In the morning, the Dalí Theatre-Museum. The artist himself designed it on the remains of the old municipal theatre, and it opened in 1974. Explore the great geodesic dome, the surrealist installations, the courtyards and the jewellery room: every corner works as a work of art in itself.

At midday, stroll through the old town to Salvador Dalí's birthplace on Carrer Monturiol, the church of Sant Pere, where he was baptised, and the Rambla. For lunch we recommend Can Duran, a classic with a long history.

Afternoon of day 1: two options

  • Museu de l'Empordà or the Toy Museum of Catalonia: in Figueres; they show the cultural setting in which the artist grew up.
  • Gala Dalí Castle in Púbol: 30 min (30 km): a medieval castle that Dalí bought and decorated as a refuge for Gala, his wife and muse, who is buried there.

Day 2: Portlligat and Cadaqués (40 min, 30 km)

In the morning, the Salvador Dalí House-Museum in Portlligat. In this small bay next to Cadaqués, Dalí joined several fishermen's huts together to create his home and studio. You'll see his studio just as he left it, the library, the gardens and the sea views that shaped all his work.

For lunch in Cadaqués we recommend Ses Paelles or, right on the beach, La Sal Es Xiringuito and Blue Cadaqués.

In the afternoon, wander through the old town of Cadaqués, with its white houses and cobbled streets that the painter often walked, and head out to the Cap de Creus Natural Park, whose wind-carved rocks inspired many of his paintings.
